A rock opera in four dead towns. Bring your ears; MARTHA will bring the questions.
Ghost Towns is my album, performed as an interactive rock opera inside a Decentraland World. Four abandoned towns surround the Well of Origo: Umbra, Anima, Vasta and Memoria. Each town blames another for its downfall. Visitors arrive with MARTHA, a robotic rover who brought them here to survey the case. They pick an instrument to carry: a microphone, guitar, bass, synth, keytar or drums. Then they walk the towns and collect the ghosts' testimonies. Each building holds a ghost who performs one of the album's songs as a full immersive show, with choreography, synced light shows and stereo sound you can walk through.
Highlights
- A weekly release: one town opens each Thursday. Umbra opened October 8, followed by Anima (Oct 15), Vasta (Oct 22) and Memoria (Oct 29).
- Fully voiced story: MARTHA and every ghost have their own voices, with a robotic filter for MARTHA and a ghostly echo for the ghosts. On-screen captions accompany every line.
- Immersive song rooms: ghost performers, choreography using community-made dance emotes, light shows synced to hand-tapped beat maps, and stereo speakers placed around each room.
- Carried instruments: each visitor's chosen instrument rides on their avatar's back, and other players can see it.
- A cinematic opening: the camera glides from over the player's shoulder to MARTHA for her opening monologue.
- Music everywhere: the Well of Origo theme plays along the paths and grows louder as you near the Well. Each town has its own ambient soundscape.
